Computing for Change
Researcher: Jill Dimond
We interviewed first year women who are not pursuing computer science to understand if they are motivated to engage in the design of technologies that help people and to what extent are they willing to participate. Another study, which surveyed about 1200 first years at Georgia Tech, indicated with significance that women need to feel like they are helping people in order to feel satisfied in their career compared to men. From these results, we are looking at the OLPC XO as motivating context for the development of a new introductory computing course.
